FAQs

Why do people decide to have one-to-one sessions?

Many find it helpful to talk about personal issues with a person who is independent of friends and family – they are qualified in their area of expertise; they are ‘impartial’ and detached from the situation or problem and they do not  know your ‘history’.

Whilst certain life events can be very difficult to deal with,  you do not have to be in crisis or have experienced trauma before choosing to have sessions. You may be experiencing underlying feelings of dissatisfaction with life in general – how it’s moving and the direction its going.   All these reasons and more bring people to sessions.

What will happen in the free introductory session?

This session last 30- 40 minutes.  Following your enquiry, and from the information  given me I go through the principles and methods we use to help you and we assess whether I can help you.  I explain the arrangements for sessions  eg electronic platforms used, (currently I use Zoom) as well as days, times and prices as well as  recording sessions for you and privacy and data protection protocols.  I answer any questions that you have.

What will happen in the first session?

The first session lasts approximately one and a half to two hours.  . I send out a pre-session questionnaire from which I set a plan for the material to be covered.   We will set a GPS ie what you want to achieve.  You will choose your favourite colour and a ‘subject’ you love UNCONDITIONALLY. You are always in control … there are no incorrect answers.  In every session we will do ‘detective work’ and change childhood memories or experiences.  I always set ‘homework’ – it’s up to you whether you do it  (however, if you do progress will be quicker!).

How long does a counselling session last?

Sessions last between an hour and hour and a half or until we both feel that everything has been covered for that session.

How many sessions will I need?

This is different for everyone. This method can be fast and individuals who grasp the key principles in the first session can often really move their lives forward independently – enabling personal ‘empowerment’ is the aim of each session.

Some folk want to develop a set of ongoing tools, techniques and skills on which to build a whole new approach to how they engage in life.  Three months will certainly achieve this and over this period I take you through a ‘course’ in personal change and development which is lasting when practiced daily.

Please see ‘Coaching Packages’ on this site which make sessions accessible to all – I am open to all payment ‘arrangements’ to make sessions affordable.  Please ask about them.

NB – Members of The Remmert Method Private Daily Group qualify for a 50% discount.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes counselling is confidential. There are some exceptions to keeping confidentiality in relation to duty of care.   Please see my Privacy Statement on this site.

How often are the sessions?

Once a week is the most effective way to achieve your GPS and personal change.  The twelve sessions ie three months (see Coaching Packages), cover the entire scope of the material, tools and techniques I use.  From then on clients return for monthly or even quarterly ‘maintenance’ sessions which ensures they remain ‘on track’.

Emergency Sessions?

These are almost always available at short notice.  They are at half the cost of a full single session and focus on bringing down anxiety to manageable levels and put in place a plan of action till the next scheduled session.
